When My Body Said Stop
Two days ago, I went to the chiropractor to have my back adjusted.
He cracked my neck, shoulders, and lower back.
I didn’t think much of it at the time.
The next day, I had an incredibly bad day at work.
I was irritated.
Short-tempered.
I found myself snapping at my coworkers more than I usually would.
When I got home, I started feeling a tightness in my chest.
At first, it was mild.
Then it grew stronger.
And stronger.
Until it ended in a massive panic attack.
I have never experienced anything like it.
I started hyperventilating.
My breathing sounded like someone with severe COPD.
It felt as if I was suffocating.
I was coughing.
Gagging.
The whole thing was absolute chaos.
It was one of the worst experiences of my life.
Afterwards, I started reading about emotional and physical reactions following chiropractic treatment.
I found stories from people who described intense emotional responses after long-held tension had been released.
I don’t know if that’s what happened to me.
But that’s exactly what it felt like.
As if something inside me had opened.
As if the black pillar I often write about had developed a small crack.
As if all my defenses had suddenly disappeared.
I can still feel the anxiety tonight.
So I have no doubt that something changed in my body after that appointment.
Today, I have a knot in my stomach.
I feel dizzy.
Nauseous.
Generally unwell.
After writing the last paragraph, I realized I needed to call the emergency clinic.
Another panic attack was on its way.
Two days of dizziness.
Sweating.
Feeling cold.
Tension.
Crying.
Gagging.
Coughing fits.
It was simply too much.
Now…
I’m just exhausted.
Maybe the chiropractor released more than just the tension in my muscles.
Maybe it was simply a coincidence.
I honestly don’t know.
All I know is that my body is trying to tell me something.
And right now…
I’m too tired to understand what.
I’ll write more tomorrow. ❤️
